Casa (Kindergarten)

This is an enriched program for children aged 3 to 6+ years, It gives students a solid academic foundation in preparation for their elementary years in local or international schools.

Curriculum

The areas of study are: practical life, sensorial, language, mathematics, geography, botany, zoology, art and music. Mathematics and language are the foundation for the child’s academic growth and are core subjects introduced and practiced on a daily basis.

Language

Language flourishes best in a language-rich environment. Our curriculum consists of vocabulary enrichment, sound games, word study and reading analysis to build a strong language foundation for the child. The child learns to write in cursive as it is more natural for the child’s hand to connect letters in words than writing in manuscript.

Language is one of the fundamental elements of learning for all age groups, but in recognition of the diversity of our student body and the multilingualism in Hong Kong, we are now expanding our immersive language options in the Chinese curriculum to all our campuses.

Starting September 2019*, while English remains the primary language taught for all classes at ICMS, Kindergarten students have the option of English, Cantonese and Putonghua, or English and Putonghua as their preferred medium of instruction.

*Kindergarten students at the North Point campus are already given the trilingual learning option since September 2018.

Mathematics

Mathematics materials in the early years lay the foundation for later cognitive development and prepare for the gradual transition to abstract thinking. Children work with addition, subtraction, multiplication and division using concrete materials that will inspire their confidence and desire to seek out future learning experiences. These four mathematical operations and the concept of fractions are also explored further.

Practical Life

Practical life activities teach practical skills while aiding eye-hand coordination and development of concentration, independence, confidence and organizational skills. Grace and courtesy skills are also practiced.

Sensorial

Sensorial materials help children develop the concepts of order, compare and classify so that future learning would be more meaningful and useful. These concepts prepare them for future exploration of language, mathematics, geometry, art, and music within the Montessori program.

Geography, Botany, Zoology, Art and Music

These subjects are presented as extensions of sensorial and language activities, to enrich the child’s knowledge of the world we live in.
